Teleportation and Hyperdrive

Teleportation and Hyperdrive systems operate on essentially the same principle which is to move through another dimension that allows travel faster than the speed of light to another location. Teleportation is typically done at short enough range that only a second passes, while hyperdrive is similar but takes place over a longer duration so movement can be made between planets or solar systems. Teleportation and Hyperdrive always calculate movement in a straight line and ignore any intervening barriers other than an antimagic field at the destination (Subject appears as close as possible to the destination while still outside the antimagic field).

To determine the success of a hyperdrive or teleportation trip a skill roll can be made against Science. Difficulty is only 5 if the destination is clearly visible from the starting location, but increases to 10 for very familiar locations such as home or work, 15 for somewhat familiar locations such as a bar, restaurant, or park where the character is a regular. For areas the character has only viewed casually the difficulty is 30 and for a place the character is guessing at the difficulty is 60. When going to a known location the character can get a bonus from Education for memory. If operating a teleporter the Electronics skill is used instead and an active sensor lock counts as clearly visible. If operating with an astrogation computer then programming can be used and an accurate astrogation chart is considered somewhat familiar while an active stargate beacon is considered clearly visible.

The dimensional effects from hyperdrive/teleport can be used for other things as well. Retrocognition or seeing the past is an area based hyperdrive effect with a duration value of 100 per day. Resurrection is a dimensional effect with a range in days (100 ea) to recall a soul. Dimensional portals are an area effect Dimensional manipulation but the difficulty of successfully calculating a desired result is very low as it is always treated as a blind jump.
